OUR BLOG

Welcome to the Silicon Valley Doulas blog, home to helpful tips and tricks, cranky rants, too many f-words, and lots of love for growing families.

Fetus Betus

Fetus Betus

Fetus Betus I didn’t think anything of my glucose tolerance test leading up to it. After all, I had no risk factors for it as far as I knew. I was 31, not a young mom, but not yet what the medical establishment refers to as a “geriatric pregnancy” by any means...

Holding Babies

Holding Babies

Holding Babies I time traveled yesterday. If you were to have seen me, I would have just looked like a woman holding a baby on a glider (rocker.) It was afternoon in early November and the weather seems to be wishing itself into autumn. The sky was grayish and in the...

Superhero Birth Stories

Superhero Birth Stories

Superhero Birth Stories Its All Hallows Eve and we're dressing up the blog. Enjoy! Batgirl: Among other gadgets, she’s got a TENS unit and she knows how to use it. Poison Ivy: uses herbal concoctions to induce labor (and manage pain!) Aquagirl: Really doesn’t believe...

We break apart and we are put back together

We break apart and we are put back together

We break apart and we are put back together So I was reading a not-birth-related-book the other day (I know, shocker) and there was a brief description by one of the characters about giving birth (of course) and I thought it was so spot on that I wanted to share it...

Basic Kindness and Grown Ass Adults

Basic Kindness and Grown Ass Adults

Basic Kindness and Grown Ass Adults When I was a child, one of my favorite memories was from when I was sixteen. It was winter, and, like clockwork, I was sick. So, so, sick. Sore throat, fever, stuffy nose; your basic Nyquil commercial. I was in bed surrounded by one...

A Word from Matt on Safety

A Word from Matt on Safety

A word from Matt on Safety      One of the most prevalent feelings in a new father is to protect. What else could the primordial version of ourselves have to offer other than safety? Many of us are wondering, how do I keep something so fragile so safe? It’s funny, or...

Introducing, Matt

Introducing, Matt

Why I'm here I’ve known I wanted to be a Dad from a very young age. The vague memory I can muster of the first time it came up is my devoutly religious mother giving me my first Bible. (That’s right, I would be gifted many more Bibles over the course of my life, one...

WE ARE BACK!!

WE ARE BACK!!

WE ARE BACK!! I got to attend a birth the other night. That doesn't sound super exciting to most of you, after all, I am a doula. It's what I do. But like countless other industries that were affected by the novel coronavirus and its subsequent disease, COVID 19, the...

F*CK YOUR INDUCTION

F*CK YOUR INDUCTION

Lately, unless people go into labor before their EDD, induction is the chef's favorite on the birth menu. And here's the fucked up thing. It's never "just an induction". It always sounds like something scary could be happening. It's almost like watching a game show at...

Looking for a Bay Area Doula?

Have you been wondering how to find a doula in the Bay Area? We make this easy for you! You can meet the doulas at one of our community workshops or request a free consultation. When you hire our doula team you become a member of a supportive community of fellow Bay Area families and you'll have access to our Community Workshops throughout your pregnancy and early parenting. During each workshop we cover a topic related to pregnancy, birth, and parenting and provide time for Q&A and community support.

We offer comprehensive preparation and support for Silicon Valley families at every step of the journey. We hold safe space and are an inclusive practice for our vibrant diverse community. We offer services to families in the South San Francisco Bay Area including Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Alameda, and San Benito counties. We're looking forward to supporting you and welcoming you to our community of families.

Upcoming Classes and Workshops

Our workshops are included in our birth packages for Silicon Valley Doula clients. Learn more about how our workshops go beyond basic labor prep and comfort measures to help you Rock Your Birth!

Support for Marginalized Communities

Silicon Valley Doulas understands that not all communities are offered the same resources to bring their babies into the world. We want to help bridge that gap. If you are a BIPOC or transgender person struggling to find support within the birth community, please reach out.
