Comprehensive Childbirth Preparation for Pregnant Families in Silicon Valley and Beyond

COMPREHENSIVE CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION

Prepare for childbirth with our comprehensive series, Zoom in on Childbirth. We cover everything you’ll need to know, from stages of labor to feeding your baby – literally! Check out the series outline below.

We repeat the series so as one ends the next begins. Participants can choose to take as many or as few classes as they like. Our current schedule and online registration is available at Eventbrite

Class 1 - Stages of Labor

We will walk you through the three ways that labor can begin, what to expect emotionally and physically, and when to go (or call) your care providers. With practical information that will help both the laboring person as well as any labor support people.

Class 2 - Managing Labor

In this class we will dig deeper into the tools that are helpful for each stage. Why are positions important, and when are they important? We will demystify the birth ball: Why does everyone seem to use a birth ball?

Class 3 - Routine Recommendations vs Medical Solutions

What are interventions? When can they be helpful? We’ll also cover how to have conversations about consent and discuss your rights and responsibilities as a patient.

Class 4 - All About the Drugs

Learn when epidurals can be helpful in a labor and how to know when to get one. Familiarize yourself with other medications that are also available and what coping and support looks like when various drugs are a part of a labor.

Class 5 - Inductions

100% of hospital births will include a discussion of induction at some point. This class will cover when induction is a medical solution and when it is not, Including a brief history of why and when they became common practice (it’s important to have context.) We will also discuss realistic timeframes: when they may occur, how long they may take, and the various methods used for inducing and augmenting labor.

Class 6 - Cesarean Birth

Learn about the three types of cesareans and how to understand the differences. We will talk about what surgery entails, how to have a family centered cesarean birth, and the small tips that can make a difference. Lastly we will talk about the recovery process and how it can differ from a vaginal birth.

Class 7 - Pushing

It really is like pooping. Get all the info on what to expect from pushing and how to do it.

Class 8 - Postpartum

This class covers what to expect from your body, your mind, and your heart. This is not a class about the baby – It’s all about the grown-ups.

Class 9 - Newborn Care

This is all about the baby! Diapering, bathing, the science of sleep, holding, soothing, and how to find your own parenting rhythm.

Class 10 - Feed Your Baby

A class about breastfeeding/chestfeeding: Learn about the common challenges and the common ways that parents self-sabotage themselves. Set yourself up for success with realistic expectations and what “normal” actually looks like with a newborn.
